I have been learning languages since I was 10 years old. I have learned English, German and French. I have always loved it, really loved it, but I must admit that I have gone through really embarrassing and putting off situations like:

  • being in a group where most people could speak better than me (or that was only my impression)
  • reaching a plateau and facing the feeling of not being able to progress
  • admiring how other learners spoke and showed their command of the language while I was feeling stuck
  • seeing that other people had more chances to go abroad and practice the language more than me
  • they had access to native speakers (family, friends, neighbours) to do some practice
  • other people used expressions and sayings and idioms that I could hardly understand

But you know what? None of that stopped me from progressing. My aim was clear, my determination was brutal and I felt the owner of my achievement. None of these ghosts were going to stop me from reaching my aim of communicating in foreign languages.

This is the courage I would like you to have today. Stop looking around and focus on your objective.
